Oxbow NY: Richard Charles Gincel Jr. age 86 of Oxbow NY passed away on March 19th 2017. There will be calling hours for Richard from 1:00-3:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at French Funeral home in Gouverneur, NY on Wednesday, March 22nd 2017. Condolences may be shared at www. frenchfuneralhomes.com. Richard was born, June 10, 1930 in Passaic NJ to the late Richard C. Sr and Jessie (Dougherty) Gincel. He went to Clifton High School, attended Fairly Dickerson University and received his MA after attending Rutgers University. In 1953 he entered the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator, until his honorable discharge. After a previous marriage, He and Jeanne Stein were wed on August 7th 1970 at Our Lady of Fatima RC in Piscataway, NJ. Richard taught 5th grade, then served as the Principal in Lincoln Elementary and finalized his 32 years of service as principal at J.P. Stevens High School in Edison NJ. After retiring, he and his wife moved from their Hopatcong NJ home, to Oxbow NY in 1989. Richard was an active member of the Gouverneur Rotary Club and honored the club with 25 years of perfect attendance. He was also an active member and officer of the Oxbow Historical Association & the Edison Retired Principal Association. In his free time, he enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and loved to Waltz. He and his wife also loved to travel. Together they shared their summers off, driving 46 of the 48 contiguous states, Canada, Mexico and China. Surviving Richard; his wife, Jeanne, of Oxbow NY, his two sons: Richard Edward Gincel of Tampa Florida, Richard Charles Gincel III of Smyrna TN, his four married daughters: Debbie Lyn & Bobby Langford, Atlanta GA, Gretel Ida & Robert Fowler, Oxbow NY, Heidi Jeanne & T.J. Jannasch , Tuckerton NJ, Sherry Lee & David LeBarron, Tampa FL, his sister, Sally Lawler, of Massachusetts and her five grandchildren. Donations may be made in Richards Memory to Hospice of Watertown or North Country Red Cross of Jefferson County, NY.
