Claude will always be one of the most valued people in my life. For some reason I always thought he would be here, based in his Pitcairn home. I can picture him walking around his property wearing only his hat. I bet he still is! I am just so sad. My thoughts are with his family, Lynn

My sincere condolences to Claude's family. Our paths crossed while working for the same school district not too long ago. Our positions caused us to depend on each others integrity and professionalism. Although we worked together for less than a year, as our collegial relationship ended we decided to maintain a friendship. We didn't see much of each other after that but the times I'd visit the Sprowls Compound or he would stop in during one of his East to West Coast adventures in his mobile home conversion, were always filled with spirited conversation. Claude was a man of all ages. He was well read, well educated and continually sharpened his mind with musings of one day "figuring it all out". Our conversations were often thought provoking and centered around deep philosophical issues. Although we disagreed some, we always listened to each other and respected each other's right to be "wrong". Claude is one that I am proud to call friend and he will be missed sorely.

My condolences to Claude's family. We purchased the Sprowls home 35 years ago. Claude's name was often heard in Lisbon and I'll always remember him in his leather vest.

It started so very long ago in such a different time and place, and it was always unusually complicated.
A Few people have played a larger role in my life than Claude.
After making my youngest years miserable, as older brothers do, he demonstrated that it was possible to go past the county line and survive.
Probably no one has been more difficult to understand.
It was impossible not to see his generosity, but hard to avoid thinking of him as inordinately selfish in some profound ways.
Many were recipients of his kindness. Many felt the sharp sting of his tongue. Often they were the same people.
While it had benefits, it took effort to be his friend.
It has always been complicated.
I admired that he lived life on his own terms and in the end the number of things left on his bucket list was shorter than mine will ever be.
He was my brother and I will miss him.

I am so grateful to have shared some part of the journey with Claude. He knew how much I cared for him. I shared those feelings while he was here. Maybe that's tribute enough.
