Obituary of Estelle A. Serviss

BALMAT - Estelle A. Serviss, age 82, of Balmat, passed peacefully on September 14, 2013 at her home with the loving support of her family. Estelle was born on April 25, 1931 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Thomas and Pearl (McCuen) Lawrance. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1949. Estelle married Curtis R. Serviss, Sr. on July 2, 1949 in the Gouverneur Episcopal Church by Rev. Joudry. The couple has lived in Balmat since September of 1956. Estelle was a foster parent for many years and loved to play Scrabble. Her survivors include, two daughters and a son-in-law; Debra Jones of Adams and Julianne and Peter Henry of Gouverneur; four sons and three daughters-in-law; Curtis R. Jr. and Katherine of Helena, Montana, Thomas J. of Balmat, Paul B. and Wendy of Canton, and Robert J. and Judy of Balmat; thirteen grandchildren, including her grandson, Jason Rouse, whom she helped raise; and nineteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Foy of Gouverneur; brother and sister-in-law, Ike and Roxanne Serviss of Gouverneur, and her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Serviss is predeceased by her mother and her brother, Richard Lawrance; and two sisters, Edith Lawrance and Ruth Meade. There will be no calling hours or funeral service.
