Obituary of Daniel M. Szewczyk

STAR LAKE- Daniel M. Szewczyk, age 72, of Star Lake, NY passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at home. Daniel was born on June 25, 1951, in Rome, NY to the late John F. and Emily J. (Zieniewicz) Szewczyk. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Deborah Ann. After graduating from Rome Free Academy, in Rome, NY, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University. Daniel married Roberta Leffert on July 15, 1972, at St. Mary's Church in Rome, NY. He worked for National Grange Mutual Insurance and Church Mutual as a Risk Management Manager. After retirement, he enjoyed working in the Clifton Fine School District as a substitute teacher. He had a deep passion for mentoring future generations and was honored by his students for his dedication in the classroom and positive influence in their lives. Everyone that knew Daniel knew how much he loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, grilling, and being on the lake with family. He was always supportive and encouraging to all around him. Daniel also had a profound affection and gentleness with all the family and neighborhood dogs. Daniel's greatest adoration in life was devotion to his family. Daniel is survived by his wife, Roberta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Jerremy Rorick and Emily and Josh Bishop; and four grandchildren; Hailey Rorick, Cole Rorick, Elleanor Bishop, and Madeline Bishop. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass celebrating Daniel on Thursday, November 2nd at 1:00 pm at St. Hubert's Church. There will be no public calling hours. Private interment will be at St. Michaels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel's memory to Star Lake Volunteer Fire and Rescue Inc., P.O. Box 22, Star Lake, NY 13690.
