Obituary of Ethel M. Kinney

STAR LAKE- Ethel M. Kinney, age 100 of Star Lake, NY, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Carthage Center Nursing Home. There will be calling hours for Ethel on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. Her funeral mass will be on Wednesday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hubert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Fine, NY. Condolences may be shared at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Ethel was born on November 18, 1922 in Piercefield, NY to the late Leo and Agnes (Hart) Pickering. She started her schooling in Balmat, NY and then attended Gouverneur Central School. She married George Kinney on March 29, 1941. Mr. Kinney passed away in 2001. She worked as the head floor lady at the Newton Falls Paper Mill for 28 years. Ethel was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and in her younger years, she was also in Girl Scouts. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and in her home, her worked is displayed all around. Surviving is two sons, George R. Kinney of Pittsford, NY and Ernest O. and Lisa Kinney of N. Ft. Myers, FL; a daughter and her husband, Tammy M. and Robert Reil of Newton Falls; a sister, June Murphy of Tupper Lake and five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ethel is predeceased by her husband, her parents; two brothers, Robert and Harold Pickering; four sisters, Esther Farnesworth, Beatrice Lundy, Hazel "Pat" Brickey and Margaret Cassell; and a daughter-in-law, Dwina Joy.
