Obituary of Velva O'Hearn

EDWARDS- Velva O'Hearn, age 90, of Edwards, NY passed away on April 7, 2024 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Calling hours for Velva will be on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Edwards. Her funeral service will be on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Velva was born on March 11, 1934 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late William and Beatrice (Johnson) Parker. She married Roger W. O'Hearn on October 1, 1954 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Woods officiating. Roger passed away on June 22, 1997. Velva worked as a housekeeper for St. Lawrence University for 27 years. She was a member of Tops, the South Edwards Methodist Church and the Edwards Senior Citizens. She was an avid St. Lawrence hockey fan. She enjoyed watching high school football and spending summers with her family at Pleasant Lake. Surviving is two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger W. O'Hearn of Gouverneur and Mike J. and Kelly O'Hearn of Watertown; two daughters and their husbands, Donna M. and James Moore and Keitha A. and Pat Lamoria all of Gouverneur; her twin sister, Belva Church of Edwards; a sister-in-law, Sharon Parker of Edwards; a brother-in-law, Ron Tuttle of Gouverneur; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, Phillip Parker, and a sister, Joan Tuttle. Donations in memory of Velva may be made to the Gouverneur Breast Cancer Fund, PO Box 64, Gouverneur NY 13642.
