Paul was born on May 3, 1954 in Gouverneur, NY to George V. and Elizabeth M.
"Queenie" (Gillette) McCormick. He graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School
in 1973. Paul married Joanne Woods on August 19, 1978 at St. Anthony's
Church in Newton Falls. He worked for the Town of Clifton Highway Department, the Painters Union in Oswego and drove truck for various companies.
Paul was an active member of the Cranberry Lake Mountaineer Snowmobile Club, former member of the Cranberry Lake Fire Department, President of Buck Knoll Hunting Club and head of maintenance for the Bear Mountain Boat Club. "Swicker" as he was known by many, didn't just have hobbies; he had passions, not the least hunting! Few hunting seasons went by that Paul didn't take a buck, either by black powder or rifle. Joanne often quipped that if there was knife season, her husband would be in the woods for that too! Over the years, he shared a hunting camp, Devenaugh Hill, first with dear friends, Kelly and Randy which he and his dad George helped build. In later years, he, George, Fred, Dale, Jordan, Lucas, and Thomas McCormick acquired property nearby and started the Buck Knoll Hunting Club equally profitable for venison and as a snowmobile or 4-wheeler destination.
As a lifelong resident of Cranberry Lake, Paul loved the water. Boating all summer long with family and friends often brought him to Bear Mountain to join in with Gene, Liz and the gang there. In the winter, he was on the ice, snowmobiling and/or ice fishing. Swicker, known to many as the Music Man, for no matter the mode of transportation, he provided the music.
Paul loved traveling, helping others, but most importantly, being with his family and friends.
Surviving is his wife, Joanne; a son, Jordan McCormick and his partner Amber;
three granddaughters, Olivia, Juniper and Luca McCormick; his mother-in-law,
Patricia Woods; a sister, Gail and Fredrick "Otie" Gotham; two brothers, Dale and
Cindy McCormick and Fredrick and Becky McCormick; brothers and sisters-in-
laws, Patti and Steve Smith, Michael Woods, Martin and Ginger Woods, Jeffrey
Woods, William and Georgiana Woods, Susan and Willie Layton, Lisa and her
partner Steve, Tony and Courtney Woods and Kelly and Robert Woods-Embrey.
Paul is predeceased by his parents, George and Queenie; a son Lucas McCormick
who passed away in 2013; and his father-in-law, Wayne Woods.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Cranberry
Lake Fire and Rescue Department.
