Obituary of Olive J. Johnson

Former Farmer, Bowling Alley Owner and Homemaker, Olive J. Johnson Dies. GOUVERNEUR - Olive J. Johnson passed away November 29, 2013 at Maplewood Health Center, Canton, where she resided the past two years. She was born January 7, 1927 in Gouverneur, the daughter of Eugenia and Arnold Popple. She married Earl D. Johnson in 1946. Mrs. Johnson farmed with her husband for several years in the Spragueville area. They later owned and operated the local bowling alley, then called Penguin Lanes, with partners, Carl and Nancy Cappellino. Because of poor health they sold the lanes after 12 years and retired. They moved to Cambray Court in 1996. Mr. Johnson died in November 1997. Mrs. Johnson lived many years with her daughter before moving into Maplewood. Surviving are a daughter, Penny and her companion, Gary Higgins, Gouverneur, a son, Paul Johnson, Gouverneur, a son and his wife, Earl Jr. (Sandy) and Marcy Johnson, Lacona, N.Y., 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A daughter, Judy Ann, died at the age of 13 in 1961, and a grandson, Justin, died in 1995. There will be no calling hours or funeral, at Mrs. Johnson's request. There will be a grave site service with the family at a later date.
