Obituary of James W. Cunningham

GOUVERNEUR- James "Jim" W. Cunningham, age 82, of Gouverneur, NY passed away on December 26, 2024 There will be a private graveside service at a later date in East Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. James was born on June 27, 1942 in Watertown, NY to the late Gerald and Gladys M. (Fortin) Cunningham. He attended school in Ogdensburg, Lisbon and Hermon-Dekalb. On June 27, 1964, he married Bonnie Putman at St. Henry's Church in Dekalb Jct. Jim owned and operated Field Valley Farm in Gouverneur for many years. He also worked for Empire Northeast for over twenty years, retiring in 2019. He was a member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge and he enjoyed hunting and gambling. Surviving is his wife, Bonnie; three sons, Phillip J. Cunningham, Scott G. and Bridget Cunningham and Daniel J. and Colleen Cunningham; a daughter, Brandi B. Cunningham; a brother, Randy and Susan Cunningham; two sisters, Paulette Burcume and Robin Dillbough; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his parents and a sister Cynthia Cunningham. Donations may be made in Jim's memory to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
