OXBOW - Richard "Dick" G. Powell, age 70, of Oxbow, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 with his family at his side. His visitation and funeral service will be held at the Oxbow Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 21, 2013. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Dick was born on April 25, 1943 in Gouverneur to the late Charles and Jane (Canfield) Powell. He attended the Antwerp and Indian River schools. Dick delivered milk in his younger years. Later he worked in the air conditioning/heating field in Florida and was a heavy equipment operator for different construction firms in Florida, Texas and New York. He married Denise D. (Mosher) Gaebel on February 12, 1999. He had two previous marriages. Dick was a member of the Oxbow Fire Department, Antwerp Fire and Rescue, and was a NASCAR fan. Dick was truly happy when he was outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all else, family meant a lot to him, especially if he could get a rise out of them and get them going. He is survived by his wife, Denise; two sons, Todd Powell and his wife, Sharon of Houston, TX, Ty Powell of Florida; three step sons, Chad Gaebel and his wife, Laurie of Oxbow, Ray Roberts and his companion, April, of Oxbow, Lucas Nichols and his companion, Ashley, of Potsdam; and a step daughter, Marcy Greene and her companion, Kenny, of Theresa. He is also survived by two sisters, Peggy LaMica and her husband, Ken of Philadelphia, Doris Murdock of Tampa, FL; sisters-in-law, Margaret of Philadelphia and Patty Powell of N Carolina; and brother-in-law, Don Cunningham. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Roger, Bob and Glenn Powell; a sister, Jean Cunningham; and a brother-in-law, Archie Murdock.
