Obituary of Skyler Daniel Way

GOUVERNEUR- PFC Skyler Daniel Way, age 19, passed away suddenly on January 6, 2014 after being in a car accident while stationed at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. Calling hours for Skyler will be from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Gouverneur Elks Lodge. His funeral service will be at the Gouverneur Elks Lodge on January 20, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Alfred Netto officiating. Burial will follow in the East Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. Arrangements are entrusted to French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. A gathering will follow funeral services at the American Legion in Gouverneur on Monday, January 20, 2014. Skyler was born on August 7, 1994 in Gouverneur, NY to Daniel and Shannon (Durham) Way. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 2012 with a BOCES certification in Auto Tech. After graduation Skyler worked for Josh Rogers in Gouverneur until his departure for Boot Camp. Skyler served in the United States Marine Corp. as an Ammunition technician with the 2nd Supply Battalion and Ammunition Company at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. Skyler had a passion for wrestling that started in Pee Wee at the age of 5 and stayed strong right through to his graduation from high school. Throughout his Varsity years Skyler was a Section X champion for 4 years and was fortunate to make it to States for 4 years. Skyler also enjoyed racing. Skyler raced at the Evans Mills Speedway for 2 years in the junior thunder stock class. Skyler had a few feature wins at the Evans Mills Speedway track. Skyler shared the love of racing with his dad and family and carried on the family racing tradition. Skyler also enjoyed boating and tubing at the lake with his family, along with playing football, track, fishing and hunting. Skyler also enjoyed fast cars and his PRINCESS He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Shannon of Gouverneur; fiance Matasha McIntosh (PRINCESS);a brother, Vandavian at home; three sisters, Shandan at home, Amber and Brian Hartley of Fairbanks, Alaska and Heather Way of Gouverneur; a maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Linda and Michael Thomas; paternal grandmother and step grandfather, Jean and William Rickett all of Gouverneur; three nieces, Korleen Brown, Keelana Thomas and Charlie Alton; five nephews, Blaine Brown, Grayson Hartley, Daniel and Vincent Thomas and Dante Alton; and MANY aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Skyler is predeceased by two brothers, Daniel Edward and Allen Michael Way; his maternal grandfather, Orin (Bub) Durham; paternal grandfather, James Smith and two uncles and three cousins.
