Obituary of Marguerite Johnson

PLEASANT LAKE/MACOMB - Marguerite Johnson, age 87, of Pleasant Lake, Macomb, NY, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 surrounded by her family. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, 16 Barnes St., Gouverneur on Sunday, January 26th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Her funeral mass will be at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rossie on Monday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. Burial in the St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur, will be in the spring. Marguerite was born on March 9, 1926 in Norwood to the late Samuel Frank and Mary Eva (LaComb) Refici. She attended the Norwood Elementary School and graduated from the Gouverneur Central School. She married Oliver Johnson on July 7, 1946. Marguerite worked at the Crystal Palace, St. James School cafeteria, and for the Gouverneur Neighborhood Center. She loved time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marguerite enjoyed playing Bingo, working on crafts, and running the roads. She loved her religion, walking and spending the winters in Florida. Her survivors include her husband of 67 years, Oliver Johnson of Pleasant Lake; eleven children, James Johnson of Syracuse, Linda Hutton of Pleasant Lake, Richard and Sharon Johnson of New Mexico, Terry Johnson of Pleasant Lake, Judy and William Strickland of Dryden, Mary and Howard Popke of Vermont, Vickie and Alan Merrill of Canton, Diane and William Miller of Gouverneur, Michael and Helen Johnson of Pleasant Lake, Timothy Johnson and Tammy Stamper of Gouverneur, and Nancy Lyons of Florida. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her ten siblings, Elizabeth Williams, Frances Lang, Rose Woodrow, Dorothy Bland, Ellen Woods, Jean LaMora, Harold Refici, and three in infancy.
