Obituary of Ronald F. Brayton

NEWTON FALLS- Ronald F. Brayton, age 79, of Newton Falls, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg. Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 4, 2012, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards. Online condolences may be made at www.frenchfuneralhome.com Ronald was born on February 15, 1933 in Edwards, NY to the late Floyd and Pearl V. (Leonard) Brayton. He attended school in Edwards and then entered into the United States Army in 1951 and served until his honorable discharge in 1954. A marriage to Correne Goins ended in divorce. He then married Mary L. Widrick on June 22, 1986 at the Heuvelton Methodist Church. Ronald worked as an oiler at the Newton Falls Paper Mill for 30 years from April 12, 1965 until his retirement on September 1, 1995. He was a life member of the Gouverneur VFW Post 6338 and was a previous member of the Olan K. Brayton VFW Post in Edwards before it closed. He was also a member of the Benson Mines American Legion Post 1539, the Clifton-Fine Riffle and Pistol Club and the Star Lake Senior Citizens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports. Ronald is survived by his wife, Mary L. Brayton of Newton Falls; a son, Keith F. and Nancy Brayton of Gouverneur; a daughter, Kimberly A. Fuller of Gouverneur; a stepson, Jim and Mary Furgison of Heuvelton; a stepdaughter, Deborah and Roger Dafoe of Canton; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Floyd and Pearl Brayton, and a sister Dolores Brayton, who died in infancy.
