Obituary of Dorothy "Dot" Pickering

STAR LAKE - Dorothy "Dot" Pickering, age 87, of Star Lake, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Calling hours will be at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at the St. Hubert's Catholic Church, Star Lake, on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Burial in St. Michael's Cemetery will be held at a later date. Dorothy was born on February 2, 1927 in Fort Plain, NY to the late Albert J. and Aleta Anne (Cobb) Ely. She graduated from the Herkimer High School in 1945 and married Harold W. Pickering on December 27, 1946 in the Herkimer First Baptist Church. Dot worked in the finishing room at the Newton Falls Paper Mill for about 25 years. She loved taking care of her grandchildren, cooking, knitting, crocheting, and gardening. She also enjoyed volunteering for various events at St. Hubert's Church. Dot is survived by her husband, Harold; her son and his wife, Harold Jr. and Nancy of Star Lake, her daughter and her husband, Linda and Jack Faulkner of Pinellas Park, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Paula Ely of Tennessee; and three sisters, Marion Edwards of Tacoma, WA, Barbara Bush of Star Lake, and Pat and Chuck Trembley of Newton Falls. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Christina Pomerville, Harold "Billy" Pickering III, Shannon and Jack Faulkner, Brande DeFilippis; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn and Alexis Pomerville, Tyler, Eden and Liam Faulkner, Kyle and Kaden Pickering, Bella, Lola and Seth DeFilippis, and several nieces and nephews.
