Obituary of Jean E. Harris

OSWEGATCHIE - Jean E. Harris, 82, of Oswegatchie, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at her home under the loving care of family and friends and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice. Jean was born on May 31, 1932 in Oswegatchie to the late Mernie C. and Gladys A. (Lillis) Daniels. She graduated from the Oswegatchie Union Free School in 1950. Jean married Arlo B. Harris, Sr. on July 2, 1950 in Oswegatchie, officiated by Rev. Hall. Arlo passed away on April 2, 1998. Mrs. Harris worked as a cook for the Newton Falls Paper Mill for sixteen years. She had also been the cook for the Mountain Gate Diner in Star Lake. In her free time, Jean enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed her flower bed and watching her birds, especially her humming birds. She is survived by her son and his wife, Arlo B. Harris, Jr. and Veronica of Milton, FL; her sister Barbara Arnold of Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Lisa, Beth, Angie and Brad; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Brayton and Dalton; her nephew, Rick, and her niece, Roxie. She is predeceased by her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Denise M. and Alton Dumas; and her brother-in-law, Ted Arnold. Calling hours will be at French Family Funeral Home, Star Lake on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 2 - 3 p.m. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Pieter Visscher officiating.
