Obituary of Lois C. Bauer

GOUVERNEUR - Lois C. Bauer, age 79, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the United Helpers River Ledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg where she has resided for a year. There will be a calling hour at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Gouverneur on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service which begins at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gregory Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the East Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Lois was born in Queens, NY on March 16, 1935 to the late Henry Arthur "Art" and Dorothy Elizabeth (Jennings) Charlton. She graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She married Guenther J. Bauer on January 26, 1957 in the Trinity Episcopal Church of Hewlett, NY. The couple lived in Astoria before moving to Jay in 1990 and Gouverneur in 2000. Mr. Bauer passed away on March 9, 2008. Mrs. Bauer worked as a Registered Nurse for the Port Jefferson School District and had previously worked as an operating room nurse and an obstetrics nurse on Long Island. Lois enjoyed reading, knitting, and making quilts. She loved attending her daughter's horse shows, helping her husband with his stereoscopic society and going to the beach in East Hampton. She also enjoyed working on ceramics and ran a teaching ceramics studio in her home. Her survivors include her daughter, Linda Westcott and her companion, Bill Conran of Gouverneur; her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Fred Sellers of Florida; and her granddaughter, Megan Westcott and her companion, Amanda Thornton of Lake Placid.
