Obituary of Sally Ann Silk

EDWARDS- Sally Ann Silk, age 80, formerly of Edwards, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at United Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. Calling hours for Sally will be on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Edwards. Her funeral service will be on Friday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Howard Maxson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Sally was born on July 31, 1933 in Berea, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Lorain and Lydia (Luttman) Silk. She graduated from Bay Village High School. While raising her three daughters and four step children, she worked as a secretary, owned a restaurant in Edwards, then, became manager of the Edwards Senior Citizens Meal Program. She would volunteer with John McFerran by taking the senior citizens on outings for the day. With an empty nest, she went to college and graduated at age 50 from Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg with a degree in Food Service Preparation and soon became the Supervisor of the Gouverneur Central School for food preparation until she retired. Sally loved to go camping, and go to auctions and going out to dinner with her companion of over 30 years, John McFerran. Her survivors include her sister, Judith Silk of California; four daughters and their spouses, Pamela and Clint Many of Ohio, Deborah and Richard Card of Fowler, Victoria and Randy Cross of Ohio and Janice "Shelly" Barcomb of New Hampshire; three sons, Adam and Debora Moore of Pennsylvania, Peter and Anna Moore of New York and Christopher Moore of New Hampshire; and thirteen grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by John McFerran's daughters, Lorinda "Rini" and Margaret McFerran. Sally is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Lorain Silk and her long time companion, John McFerran.
