Obituary of Esther G. McEathron

TALLAHASSEE – Esther G. McEathron, age 92, of Tallahassee, FL and formerly of Harrisville, NY, passed away on October 17, 2014, peacefully in her home. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, 16 Barnes Street, Gouverneur NY on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10:00-10:30 a.m. Her funeral will be on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Frances Hemstreet officiating. Burial will be in the Garrison Cemetery in Pitcairn, NY followed by a reception held at the family home in Pitcairn if anyone would like to bring a covered dish. Esther was born on July 14, 1922, in Pitcairn, NY to the late Alvin E. and Mable Esther (Castor) Guinup. She attended the Pitcairn School, graduated from the Harrisville High School in 1940 and from Canton A.T.I. nursing program in 1944. Esther worked as a nurses' aid for the Hospital in Gouverneur in the ER and on the maternity ward. On January 30, 1946, she married Daniel A. McEathron in Harrisville with Rev. Chapman officiating. In 1965 the family moved to Wassaic, NY where Esther began working at the Wassaic Development Center as an L.P.N. until she retired in 1977. After retiring, Esther and Daniel moved to Monticello, FL. They lived in Monticello until 2006 at which time they moved to Tallahassee, FL to live with their youngest daughter. Daniel passed away on November 23, 2013. Esther is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell A. and Sharon McEathron of Wassaic, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Mabel and Gunther Pentz of Canajoharie, NY and daughters, Cheryl Rodgers of Dover Plains, NY and Karen Ashworth of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by a sister, Lois King of Harrisville, NY; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters, Iva Hamilton, Agnes Hubbard and Alice Given. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Esther may be made to Big Bend Hospice.
