FELTS MILLS/GOUVERNEUR – Richard V. Mazurowski, age 77, passed away on February 10, 2015 at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Frankfort, NY.
His calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. His funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur with Father Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur with military honors. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Richard was born on September 24, 1937 in Gouverneur, the son of the late Joseph and Eveleen (Dennis) Mazurowski. He went to elementary school in Star Lake and graduated from Plainfield High School in Central Village, Connecticut in 1955.
Mr. Mazurowski served in the U.S. Airforce from 1955 until his release in 1959. Richard served in Germany and France working as an aircraft mechanic. He was in the Reserves from 1959 until 1963.
He married Elaine J. Peryer on August 18, 1962 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Chazy with Rev. Leon Lagault officiating. Mr. Mazurowski worked at the Deferiet Paper Mill for 39 years; retiring as machine tender in 1998.
Richard was an avid baseball fan and player. His favorite team was the Red Sox. He is a past member of the Felts Mills Fire Department, the Felts Mills American Legion, the Black River Knights of Columbus, St. Paul's Catholic Church in Black River, the Samaritan Pulmonary/Cardio Rehabilitation Group, and enjoyed camping.
His survivors include his wife, Elaine – Felts Mills; a son and his wife, Alan R. and Jennifer Mazurowski – Rensselaer; a grandson, Zachary; a daughter and her husband, Mariann and David Amosio – Frankfort, NY; a brother-in-law, Francis Griffith – Louisville KY; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Karen Griffith.
Donations in Mr. Mazurowski's memory may be made to the Village of Black River Rescue Squad, the Jefferson County SPCA or to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Black River. His family would also encourage Mass cards to be sent.
