RUSSELL – Pauline C. Reed, age 81, of Russell, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at her home under the loving care of her family and hospice.
Her funeral will be held on May 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Russell United Methodist Church followed by burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Clare. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Pauline was born on April 25, 1933 in East Pitcairn, the daughter of the late Charles and Madeline (Jackson) Colton. She graduated from the Knox Memorial High School in 1950 and from the Watertown Business School in 1951.
Pauline married Lawrence W. Reed on November 19, 1951 at the Russell United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. George Pilbeam. The couple has lived in Russell throughout their marriage.
Mrs. Reed worked as an assistant to the Comptroller at St. Lawrence University for 16 years before taking her job as the manager of the H.E.A.P. program for St. Lawrence County. She worked for the county for 12 years before retiring in 1995.
Pauline was a member of the Russell United Methodist Church where she served as the former Lay Leader and Treasurer for many years and well as was a member of the Russell United Methodist Women's Group. She served on the church's Cluster, District and Conference level committees and was a certified lay speaker. In her free time, Pauline was an avid knitter.
Her survivors include her husband, Lawrence of Russell; her son, Calvin of Westmoreland; a brother, Wesley Colton of Russell; a granddaughter, Jennifer of Lyons; and a great-granddaughter, Marguerite Hopkins.
She is predeceased by her parents; and three children who died at birth, Ernest, Sheila, and Shirley.
Donations in memory of Pauline may be made to the Russell United Methodist Church, the D.C.S.R. Volunteer Fire and Rescue, or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
