Obituary of Garry L. Newtown

STAR LAKE – Garry L. Newtown, age 80, of Star Lake, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. Garry was born on June 6, 1934 in Nicholville, NY. He was a son of the late George N. and Esther (Rhodes) Newtown and attended the Parishville-Hopkinton School. Garry married Dorothy E. (Patnode) Bebee on May 24, 1969. The couple has lived in Star Lake for most of their lives. After wintering in Florida for several years the couple lived there year round from 1994 until moving back to Star Lake in 2004. Mr. Newtown worked for the Newton Falls Paper Mill for 43 years, retiring as a lab technician in 1994. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, loved hunting and enjoyed seeing the classic cars at various car shows. His survivors include his wife, Dorothy E. Newtown; three daughters; Joanne Shaw, Kerry Forsythe and her companion, Roger Banks, Marcy Calhoon and her husband, Tim; a brother and his wife, Gordon and Shirley Newtown; and two sisters, Sonja Shampine and Janice and Robert Copenhagen. Garry is also survived by three step-children; Robert Bebee and his wife, Linda, Chris Bebee and his wife, Denise, Charlene Robla and her husband, Darrel; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by a brother-in-law, David Shampine, and a step-son, Dean Bebee. His memorial service will be at French Family Funeral Home, 4159 St. Hwy. 3, Star Lake on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Hubert's Cemetery.
