Obituary of June E. LaVack

SPRAGUEVILLE – June E. LaVack, age 88, of Spragueville, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the River Ledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Her funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Beth Benham officiating. Burial will be in the East Riverside Cemetery. June was born on June 29, 1927 in Macomb to the late Alvin and Bertha (Dane) Washburn. She graduated from the Gouverneur High School in 1944. June worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Lee in Gouverneur until her marriage. She married Frederic F. LaVack on August 19, 1948 at the Macomb Wesleyan Parsonage with Rev. Jesmer officiating. The couple operated their dairy farm on the Cream of the Valley Road before buying the current farm in Spragueville in May of 1957. Frederic passed away on January 13, 2011. June loved nature and animals, especially birds. She was a member of the Blue Bird Society, the Audubon Society, and enjoyed gardening and canning. She worked for the Board of Elections for many years and was a former 4-H Co-Leader with Jo Shippee. Her survivors include her daughters; Susan Narog and her husband, Jeffrey, Judith LaVack and her significant other, George Hayes; her son, David LaVack; brothers, Arthur, Charles and Richard Washburn; and sisters, Joyce Stammer, Sarah Reynolds, Ada Bayne, Mary Bresett, Anna Washburn, Leona Jones, Nilah Sias, and Bettie Rook. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Krista, Jason, Kari, Karen, Jeanne, and Jared, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; a son, Alton LaVack; a daughter, Mary Ritter; brothers, James and Sylvester; and sisters, JoAnne Washburn and Eleanor Solar.
