Obituary of Antoinette Jones

GOUVERNEUR - Antoinette "Nettie" Jones, age 86, of Gouverneur, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Kinney Nursing Home. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Beth Benham officiating. Burial will be in the Hailesboro Cemetery. Nettie was born on December 18, 1925 in The Hague, Holland to the late Johannes and Antoinette (Degroot) Zalme. She married Sterling G. Jones on May 22, 1946 in The Hague, Holland. Mr. Jones passed away on November 29, 2006. Mrs. Jones has lived in Gouverneur since 1946 and became a citizen of the United States of America on April 29, 1955. She worked as the Head housekeeper and clerk for the Clearview Motel for eleven years before her retirement in 1986. Nettie previously worked with her husband, operating Jones' Chevron Service Station and also worked for Palm's Dry Cleaning. She was a member of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Group of which she was President from 1989 until 1990. Nettie's survivors include two sons and their wives, Edward and Dawn Jones of Gouverneur, Carl and Donna Jones of Gouverneur; her daughter and her husband, Cynthia and J. Earl Rush of Pungoteague, VA; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brother, John Zalme; two sisters, Anne Vanderspek and Dora Tichelaar; and a granddaughter, Traci Lynn Jones.
