Please share a memory of Eddie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
OGDENSBURG – Eddie I. Shoff, age 80, of Ogdensburg, passed away at home on October 25, 2016 under the care of his loving family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. His family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice for their care.
There will be a private graveside service held in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Richville at the family's convenience. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Eddie was born on July 10, 1936 in Newport, VT to the late Manford Lyle and Marion Eugenia (Royce) Shoff. After graduating from high school, Eddie served in the United States Airforce from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Ed proudly worked as a lineman for the Metro Utility Company in Seattle, WA for 22 ½ years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Many times, after seeing a utility truck loaded with poles, he would say, "Follow that truck and poles and you'll have a job when you get there".
Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and a fun personality. He saw the bright side of everything, no matter the difficulties he was facing. He loved to fish, hunt and go camping. Eddie was an avid sports fan, especially his NY Yankees, and enjoyed watching old Westerns. Family meant a lot to him and he loved his grandchildren. He married Joyce (Dodds) Hamilton on September 6, 1983 in Coeur dAlene, ID. The couple lived in Marysville, WA for many years before moving to Gouverneur and then to Ogdensburg 13 years ago.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Ogdensburg; his son, Steven Shoff of Newport, VT; his step-children, Christine and Newell Helvie of Bath, NY, Jody Hamilton and his companion, Sharlene Wells of Old DeKalb, Martha and Peter Burt of Old DeKalb, Janet Hamilton of Old DeKalb, and Elaine and Harry Duprey of Peru, NY; and a sister-in-law, Janice Dodds. He is also survived by a sister, Mona and her husband, Rob Vinton of Florida; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
He is predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Pat and Wayne Barrup and Leta Allen; and a brother-in-law, Roger Dodds.
Donations in memory of Eddie may be made to the Ogdensburg or Morristown Rescue Squads.
