Obituary of Myra B. Weatherup

GOUVERNEUR – Myra Bernice Weatherup, age 83, of Gouverneur, passed away on October 30, 2016 at the SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Zachary Bristol officiating. Burial will be in the Hailesboro Cemetery. Myra was born on September 4, 1933 in Stockholm to the late Harold Oscar and Mayfred A. (Ober) Flanagan. She graduated from the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School in 1951 where she majored in Home Economics and was active in the Library Club, Chorus and Band. She was very active in the Busy Hour 4-H Club and later on in the West Fowler Pioneers' as the Food Leader for 30 years. She spent over 30 years selling jams and jellies, pies, vegetables and flowers at the Gouverneur Farmer's Market. Myra was a member of the Wednesday Quilters of the St. Lawrence Valley Draft Horse Club and enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting and watching the birds. She used to love cross country skiing, going to auctions and square dancing. A marriage to Richard Byrns on August 2, 1952 ended in divorce. Myra married Clayton Weatherup on October 9, 1983 at the Gouverneur Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Clayton, she is survived by three daughters, Nancy Searles, Susan and Russ Moody, Amy and Pat Hillanbrand; five step-children, JoAnn and Tom Richards, Angela and Darrin Leizer, Marty and Etta Weatherup, Brad Weatherup, and Ken Weatherup. She is also survived by a brother, Tom Flanagan; a sister, Louise Freré; 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Myra is predeceased by a son, Ralph Byrns, a brother, William Flanagan, a sister, Mary Barrigar, and a cousin that grew up with her, Stanton Ober.
