I am truly sorry for the loss and pain that Connie and the Matthews family and friends are feeling because of losing Marvin recently in death. Most of us have had to endure the sorrow of losing a loved one in death. What helped me the most was prayer and faith in our loving heavenly Father, Jehovah's (Psalm 83:18) promises like found here at 1 Corinthians 15: 26 and it tells us: "And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing." And Rev. 21: 4; reveals: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. Isaiah 33:24 guarantees us: "And no resident will say "I am sick," ever again. God's kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for at Matt. 6: 9, 10 will bring about these wonderful promises, including the resurrection. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we are all guaranteed a resurrection. (John 5:28, John 6:40, John 11:23-25) Also, Titus 1: 2 tells us this promise of a resurrection: "is based on a hope of the everlasting life that God, who cannot lie, promised long ago." Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead will live......And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life." Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever. For Jehovah himself has spoken it."For more comforting scriptures please visit: http://bit.ly/1K38EFt. It has given me hope, strengthened my faith and helped me find the answer to Why? I know it will do the same for you. Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. Again, the family is in my prayers and I offer my heartfelt condolences. Feel free to contact me if you wish at my email address; myranj@centurytel.net
I pray it will bring you some comfort to please watch this beautiful video (song 144) entitled "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" https://tv.jw.org/#en/video/VODChildren/pub-pksn_24_VIDEO

Marvin was a great fishing buddy, always positive and willing to help new fisherman... His kind and joking nature was a great thing out on the ice and made my very young son realize that losing a fish was part of the game of fishing and he would soon catch another one. My son and I will always think of him and remember him for the great person he was on those very cold days on the ice. We're very sorry for your loss...

I was very sadden to hear of Marvin's passing this morning from my sister, Mary in Watertown. Marvin and I were best friends in high school and would hang at each other's homes frequently. Janice and Marvin, Sr were always so kind to me and Marvin call my mother, "Ma". I'm not sure if this story is appropriate but it's one of my mother's favorite recollection to this day.
Marvin was staying the weekend w/ us on West Main St the weekend my father bought a new '67 Chrysler Newport. I was boasting to Marvin how big the engine was and how fast it would go and we decided to take it for a test drive at 4am while my parents were asleep. The car was a heavy BOAT of a vehicle and we bombed round the Westside like a couple of 12 years old hoodlums, my feet barely reaching the gas and looking under the steer wheel as we careened around vacant corners in the night. When we finished our 15 minute joy ride, I turn off the ignition and silently 'rolled' into the driveway. "clever" We noticed all the light were on and the police had arrived. My father, believing the car was stolen had reported it. Marvin was so scared he dashed up stairs and pretended to be asleep the whole time. It was a big night for the Barney Fiff like police as he interrogated me solo. My Mom called Marvin down, who show up in his underwear so nervous you could see his knees trembling! LOL! I got grounded, but not until my father took us into his den, sat us down and asked: "So, how did she handle around the corners?"
Marvin was a bright light, always so kind and generous. He got me my first real job at Osmose from Buffalo. I stayed on and travel with the company but he decided to service our country. Later seeing him at a high school reunion he was so cheerful and accepting to both me and my sister. That's how I'll always remember him. My family all send deepest condolences and heart feel sympathies.
Very Truly Yours,
Buddy Kerr

Marvin will be missed by so many of us. I grew up with him on Johnstown St. He was such a lively character as a teen and still had that sparkle of life when you talked to him as an adult. He was always there for us on West Shore road whenever our power was out and we needed help. Our prayers are with his family and all of his friends. I will always remember the 3 Christmas mornings in a row he made his trip to Sylvia Lake because our road was without power. It became a joke between the two of us of his yearly visit. Marvin sat with me one day and we just caught up on life and what we had been doing. From then on we kept in contact by facebook or by his trips to keep us in the light.
RIP Marvin.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Marvin's passing. I worked with him as an electrian in the late 1980's right up till the time he left to start his career with Niagara Mohawk. I have many fond memories of those days & am glad I got to know him through his great sense of humor & joking around. Although I hadn't seen Marvin since he left the construction field, I often thought of him. Through the years, anytime I had interactions with National Grid, I would ask the workers if they knew Marvin (which of course they did). I always told them to tell him Mike from Hammond says hi. I said he'll remember me. I hope they passed the messages on to him, & I do indeed hope that he did remember me. My thoughts & prayers are with his entire family.

So very sorry to read this obituary! Another little piece of my heart chipped away, the case far too often it seems these days as we learn of "friends" passing. So very many years ago when our family moved to Gouverneur in 1970, Marvin was one of my very good friends. Saw him at a couple of class reunions since and he was still as sweet and genuine as way back then. So sad....prayers and wishes for peace to his family.
