GOUVERNEUR – Murray D. Sykes, age 79, of Gouverneur, passed away on February 21, 2018 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.
Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in the Garrison Cemetery in Pitcairn.
Murray was born on July 27, 1938 in Gouverneur to the late Edna Cole. He graduated from the Harrisville Central School in 1958 and served in the United States Navy from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1964.
Murray was a miner for Gouverneur Talc for 34 years before his retirement in 2002. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His survivors include his sister, Jerrilyn Cole and her husband, Daniel; 1 cousin, 5 nieces and 1 nephew.
