Obituary of Gilbert W. Guiles

STAR LAKE – Gilbert "Gibby" W. Guiles, Jr., age 61, of Star Lake, passed away on October 16, 2018. Calling hours will be held at French Family Funeral Home, 4159 State Hwy 3, Star Lake NY 13690 on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. His memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Kimball officiating. Gibby was born on October 5, 1957 in Gouverneur to the late Gilbert W. Guiles, Sr. and Martha J. (Dalton) Guiles. He graduated from the Clifton-Fine Central School and earned his Associate degree from SUNY Canton. He married Beth A. Peek on July 10, 1993 in Star Lake. Gibby enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of the Oak Ridge Hunting Club, played basketball, softball, and was on the high school track team. He coached both basketball and track for Clifton-Fine and was good at making people laugh and always saw the bright side of things. Family was the most important thing to Gibby, including his animals. Gibby worked for the Newton Falls Paper Mill for many years, did architectural work for Cives and Global Detailing in Gouverneur, was the Code Enforcement Officer in the Clifton-Fine area, worked in maintenance for the Star Lake Housing Authority and made ice at the Clifton-Fine Arena. His survivors include his wife, Beth; sons, Gilbert "Trey" Guiles, III and Adam "Ren" Guiles; brothers, Michael and James Guiles; sister, Leigh and Daniel Looney; aunt, Patricia Pomerville; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws he was close to. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother, Mark Guiles; and a sister, Janet Long. Donations in Gibby's memory may be made to the Star Lake Rescue Squad, PO Box 22, Star Lake NY 13690.
