Obituary of Shirley L. Pomerville

NEWTON FALLS - Shirley L. Pomerville, age 78, of Newton Falls, passed away on February 28, 2019 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Shirley was born on August 23, 1940 in Hammond, NY to the late Orville and Iris (Barr) VanCour. She graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School in 1959. She was a homemaker. Shirley married James Pomerville on August 10, 1959 in Star Lake at St. Hubert's Catholic Church with Father Cotter officiating. Mr. Pomerville passed away on November 1, 1995. Shirley married James Hotchkiss on November 21, 1998 in Glenn Field, NY with Father Cotter officiating. Mr. Hotchkiss passed away on September 1, 2007. Shirley lived in Star Lake and Newton Falls most of her life. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Surviving are two sons and two daughters-in-law James E. Pomerville of Newton Falls and William C. and Lora Pomerville of Oregon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah A. and Tom Taylor of Tupper Lake and Carol A. and Jeff Payne of Newton; a sister Ora Jean Petrus of Florida and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley is predeceased by a son Robert L. Pomerville; and a brother, Karl VanCour. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 12 – 2 and 4 – 6 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Hubert's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Cranberry Lake Cemetery on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Shirley's memory to the Clifton-Fine Hospital.
