So very sorry to hear about Mr Gates’ passing. When I was living in Gouverneur in 1990, your Dad came to my rescue late one night. My husband was in Wisconsin and my Dad lived in Massena. I lived in the upstairs apartment of an old Victorian house near the river. Apparently the men remodeling the downstairs had left doors open because a HUGE RAT got in. My poor cat was trying to kill it and I was facing my greatest fear!! I called my Dad who said Mr Gates (who he knew through the Elks Club), could help. Your Dad got out of bed, got dressed and drove over to help this terrified woman! He successfully killed the rat and took it away. It may not sound like much but your Dad was a true hero!!
