Obituary of Wilbert O. Watson

GOUVERNEUR - Wilbert O. Watson, age 72, of Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. followed by his graveside service in the East Riverside Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Pastors Robert and Lola Moore. Wilbert was born on July 14, 1940 in Gouverneur to the late Robert and Hazel (House) Watson. He married Margaret A. Shablom on June 5, 1965 at the Monterey Baptist Church. Mr. Watson worked for various farms in the Gouverneur area as well as for the milk plant in Watkins Glen while also working as a guard. Wilbert cleaned for the Clearview Restaurant and retired as a custodian for the Gouverneur High School in the mid 1980's due to his health. Wilbert loved to go fishing and to draw. He enjoyed watching westerns and eating seafood at the Chinese restaurant. His survivors include his wife, Margaret of Gouverneur; his daughter, Faith and John Vann of Gouverneur; two sons, Stephen and April Watson of Gouverneur and Andrew and Jada Watson of Fowler; a sister, Violet Bush of Gouverneur; and four brothers, Clarence of Syracuse, Gary of Gouverneur, Melburn of Lockport, and Leland of Corning. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Florence Metcalf; a grandson, Stephen R. Watson; and his half siblings.
