Obituary of Martha J. Guiles

STAR LAKE- Martha J. Guiles, age 72, of Star Lake, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at her home. Her calling hours will be on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with her memorial service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake with pastors Tim Frazier and Ed Law officiating. Online condolences may be sent to www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Martha was born on December 29, 1940 in the Town of Gouverneur to the late John Stanley and Bessie Irene (Goodspeed) Dalton. She attended Gouverneur Central School. Martha married Gilbert W. Guiles Sr. on May 4, 1957 at the Gouverneur Methodist Parsonage with Rev. Wood officiating. Gilbert passed away on March 21, 1993. Martha was a homemaker, raising her six children. Throughout the years she did work various places such as Clifton-Fine Hospital, the Paper Mill in Gouverneur and was even a cab driver. She did live in various places in her life time such as Gouverneur, Richville, Hermon, Star Lake, Edwards, Massachusetts, Newton Falls, New Orleans, Mississippi and then moved back into Northern New York in 1985. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and most recently, facebooking. She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gilbert W. and Beth Guiles Jr. of Star Lake, Michael D. Guiles of Stringer, MS and James S. Guiles of Ogdensburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Daniel Looney of Star Lake; a son-in-law, Mark Long of Taylorsville, MS; a daughter-in-law, Lori Zackasee of Pulaski, PA; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Martha is predeceased by her husband Gilbert; a son, Mark G. Guiles who passed away in 2011; a daughter, Janet L. Long who passed away in 2010; twin great granddaughters, Julia and Martha Guiles and a great grandson, Daniel E. Looney III.
