Obituary of Alice B. Nace

HAILESBORO - Alice B. Nace, age 91, of Hailesboro, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Kinney Nursing Home where she had resided since 2007. Her graveside service will be on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hailesboro Cemetery with Rev. Herbert Spence of the Faith Bible Church, officiating. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Alice was born on June 29, 1921 in Gouverneur to the late Earl H. and Alice E. (Price) Brown. She graduated from the Dean High School in Gouverneur in 1940. Alice worked as a telephone operator for the NY Telephone Co., was a Red Cross worker during WWII, and was a teller for the Gouverneur Savings and Loan. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Carmargo Furniture Company in Gouverneur and retired as a teller for the Hailesboro Post Office. Alice married Richard J. Nace on February 20, 1947 at the Gouverneur Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Alice made her own wedding dress from material salvaged from a discarded parachute from the Red Cross. The couple moved to Hailesboro in 1971. Mr. Nace passed away on July 25, 2002. Mrs. Nace loved genealogy, was a member of the East Pitcairn Wesleyan Church, enjoyed music including playing the piano and organ, crocheting and gardening. Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy A. and Kenneth Weaver of Gouverneur, Evelyn J. and Michael Myrick of Athens, GA; and her son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Lee Nace of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Alice is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Richard; her sisters, Gertrude Hanson and Electa Barker; and her brothers, Nathan, Carl and Donald Brown.
