Obituary of Hester J. Shene

STAR LAKE - Hester J. Shene, age 98, formerly of Star Lake, passed away on June 9, 2013 at the Syracuse Home in Baldwinsville. Calling hours will be at the South Edwards Methodist Church on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow immediately after the calling hours at the church on 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will be in the South Edwards Cemetery. Arrangements are with the French Funeral Home in Edwards. Hester was born on February 24, 1915 in Fine to the late George and Ruth (Barraford) Javall. She grew up in South Edwards, graduated from Edwards High School in 1932 and from Dexter Teacher Training Class. Hester married Lawrence A. Shene on May 13, 1933 at the Hermon Methodist Parsonage with the Rev. Myron French officiating. They were married 57 years. Mr. Shene passed away on October 7, 1990. Besides being a teacher, store owner, bookkeeper, mother and homemaker, Hester was very active in the community. She was a former member of the Fine Eastern Star, the South Edwards Methodist Church, the Fine Home Bureau, the Clifton-Fine Hospital Auxiliary and the Star Lake Senior Citizens. Her survivors include her son, Burt L. Shene of Raleigh NC; three daughters, Beverly S. Selby of Baldwinsville, NY; Patsy S. Kaufman of Aiken, SC and Nancy C. Mucenski of Potsdam, NY. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; a sister, Vaneshia Thompson; a brother, Lester Javall; and a granddaughter, Patricia Mucenski. Hester always had a great love for her family and was very proud of her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments.
