Obituary of Margaret B. Simmons

OSWEGATCHIE - Margaret B. Simmons, age 81, of Oswegatchie, passed away at home on July 7, 2013 under the care of her loving family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery, Fine. Margaret was born on August 19, 1931 in Louisville, NY to the late Joseph LaDue, Sr. and Jeanette (Eurto) LaDue. She went to school in Louisville and has spent most of her life in Oswegatchie. Margaret married Leroy C. Simmons of September 3, 1947 in Louisville. Mr. Simmons passed away on April 3, 1968. Margaret enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, and tending her flower gardens. She taught catechism for many years and participated in league bowling. Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Fine and Oswegatchie Home Bureaus, the Star Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, was a former member of the Harrisville VFW, and was a former Cub Scout Den Mother. Her survivors include her three sons, LeRoy Simmons of Norfolk, Wilber "Wil" Simmons of Oswegatchie, David Simmons of Black Lake; her companion of 43 years, Lawrence Kerr of Oswegatchie and his children, Dan Kerr of Oswegatchie and Susan Shene of Fine; a sister, Cora "Josie" Paige of Norfolk; and four brothers, Edward LaDue of Hamlin, Joseph LaDue, Jr. of Waddington, Angus LaDue of Norfolk, and Charles LaDue of Norfolk. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Margaret is predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Ellen Tracey, Ella Smith-Simmons, and Jeanette LaDue; and two brothers, Fredrick LaDue and Albert LaDue.
