EDWARDS - Algie Roy "Catfish" Youngs, Jr., age 74, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at home where he was under the care of his loving family and Hospice. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, GOUVERNEUR on Wednesday, July 24th from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. His funeral service will be held at the funeral home in Gouverneur on Friday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Roy was born on October 3, 1938 in Macomb to the late Algie Roy Youngs, Sr. and Myrtle (White) Youngs. He attended the K-6 one-room schoolhouse in Macomb and then went to school in Heuvelton. He married Gloria L. Reynolds on August 31, 1963 at the Gouverneur Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Stanley Brown. The couple lived in Gouverneur until moving to Edwards in 1970. Roy started working as a young man for his family's farm, logging company and apple orchard. Many springs were spent helping the family make maple syrup. He had also worked for a brief time for the Aleo Cheese factory in Heuvelton. Roy retired from Z.C.A., formerly St. Joe Mineral Corp. after 30 years of work. There he started as a hand mucker, working his way up to drill operator. Roy was enthusiastic about fishing, especially for catfish. He was an avid hunter, was a member of the Rod and Gun Club in Fowler, and enjoyed woodworking and bowling. He volunteered for the American Legion in Gouverneur, loved country and western music, western movies, and cop shows. His survivors include his wife, Gloria of Edwards; two daughters, Julie and Kevin McGill, Tina and Doug Brown, all of Edwards; four grandchildren, Katie Antwine, Sarah McGill, and Seth and Austin Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Noah Antwine. He is also survived by two brothers, George and Janice Youngs of Gouverneur and Florida, Harold and Debbie Youngs of Florida; six sisters, Beulah Walrath of Brownville, Mary Priemau of Florida, Doris and George Castor of Dekalb, Nancy and John Wilson of Rennsselaer Falls, Sally Sanders of Ogdensburg, Dolly and Gene Wright of North Carolina; many aunts and uncles and over 200 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; and three sisters, Beatrice Glasford and twins, Eleanor and Eloise Youngs.
