Obituary of Wayne V. Farr

FULLERVILLE - Wayne V. Farr, age 67, of Fullerville, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013. His calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home officiated by Rev. David Hart. Wayne was born on April 14, 1946 in Fullerville to the late Virgil A. and Marie M. (McGrath) Farr. He went to the Balmat School and graduated from the Gouverneur High School and the Wanakena Ranger School. Wayne married Sonja M. Jones on April 4, 1970 in the Trinity Episcopal Church of Gouverneur followed by a reception held at the bride's parents' home. Mr. Farr retired as an equipment operator for Gouverneur Talc where he had also been a drill operator for years. He had worked as a miner for St. Joe Mineral Company in Balmat and also for J&L Steel in Star Lake. Wayne had did construction work while the St. Joe workers were on strike and, when he was younger, had worked for Seaker Chevrolet, changing oil and washing cars. Wayne loved to hunt, fish, and work with wood. He made yard decorations, sawed his own lumber, and planted many fruit trees and blueberry plants. Wayne loved his garden, canned his own vegetables, and was an adventurous cook. He was active in the 4-H and Boy Scouts and earned the title of Eagle Scout. Most of all, he loved to visit and talk with friends, especially when he and Sonja would go out for coffee twice a day. His survivors include his wife, Sonja; his daughter, Kristy L. and Michael Bunnell of Bridgeville, DE; his son, Corie W. and Tammy Farr of Richville; five grandchildren, Connor and Zach Bunnell, Caleb, Jesse, and Alyssa Farr; and several nieces and nephews.
