Obituary of Terrance "Terry" L. Williamson

GOUVERNEUR/LAKE BONAPARTE - Terrance "Terry" L. Williamson, age 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Sunday, August 24th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. His funeral will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bob King officiating. Burial will be in the Harrisville Cemetery followed by a reception at Mullin's Restaurant. Terry was born on June 13, 1944 in Harrisville to the late Clyde and Zelma (Mayhew) Williamson. He graduated as the Class of 1962 Salutatorian at the Harrisville Central School where he was a star athlete, playing basketball, soccer, and baseball. Terry received his Bachelor degree from SUNY Plattsburgh where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Delta fraternity. He married Sara Metzger on July 8, 1967 at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. The couple are longtime residents of Gouverneur, spending summers on Lake Bonaparte and winters in Newport Richey, FL. Mr. Williamson taught fifth and sixth grades for the Gouverneur Central School District for 35 years. He encouraged his students to read the newspaper and be aware of what was happening in the world. Mr. Williamson was a high school basketball coach and referee for many years, a sports announcer for WIGGS, and an avid Yankees fan. He was a member of the Kiwanis, the Elks, and the Gouverneur Country Club. Terry enjoyed serving and delivering meals for the Gouverneur Methodist Church, and served as the past President of the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club. Terry loved his family very much; his grandchildren always put a smile on his face. Terry was known for his great sense of humor and enjoyed golf, traveling, hiking, canoeing and camping. His survivors include his wife, Sara of Lake Bonaparte; two daughters and their husbands, Amy and Derek Bowman of Gouverneur, Beth and Edward Siebels of Fowler; five grandchildren, Ashton and Kylen Bowman and Cole, Owen, and Lilah Siebels; his brother, James and Sharon Williamson of Lake Bonaparte; his sister, Patsy and Roger Forkey of Newport Richey, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Anne Williamson, brothers, Larry Williamson (in childhood) and Roy Orbison; and two nephews, Charles Williamson and Scott Forkey.
